Description Job Role

HMP Berwyn will offer exceptional learning & skill provision with a focus on rehabilitation to the men it houses. The curriculum offer will support this process and we are seeking exceptional staff to help us deliver this agenda across a wide range of areas.

As directed by the Hub Manager, via appropriate assessment, ensure that prospective and existing learners receive relevant and easily understood information regarding learning and skills provision and continuing support. To enable learners to produce an informed action plan, which would maximise the impact of learning and skills upon the learner whilst in custody. To contribute to a multi-disciplinary approach that seeks to facilitate a smooth transition to the resettlement of the learner into the community.

  • Key Accountabilities

    Operational:

    • Deliver comprehensive, confidential, and impartial information sessions on educational and training opportunities within the establishment
    • Develop appropriate fully bilingual information materials.
    • Support learners through initial assessments using a range of activities including computer based testing if appropriate
    • Support learners to be able to produce an effective individual learning and work plan relevant to meeting their needs whilst in custody
    • Contribute to the effective allocation of learners to Learning & Skills provision
    • Support learners to review their action plan at significant points in their sentence
    • Provide action plans to other establishments to allow continuity of learning through the journey in custody
    • Ensure the safeguarding of learners
    • Ensure that learner records are accurate and maintained in line with data protection and agreed policies.
    • Compliance with Novus Cambria & stakeholder policies and procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and prison security requirements.
    • Support leaners engagement within the college.
    • Update and maintain records of all men entering HMP Berwyn.
    • Meet KPI and MI deadlines.
    • Liaise with other departments across the establishment.

  • Qualifications

    • Hold a minimum L3 qualification in Advice & Guidance or equivalent - Essential
    • Hold minimum L2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy - Essential
    • The ability to speak fluent Welsh - Desirable
  • Experience

    • Experience within a similar role - Essential
    • Experience of working within a prison, further education or training setting - Essential
