HMP Berwyn offers exceptional learning & skill provision, with a focus on rehabilitation, to the men it houses. The curriculum offer supports this process and we are seeking exceptional staff to help us deliver this agenda across a wide range of areas.

As directed by the Hub Manager, your will:

  • facilitate delivery in your curriculum area ensuring that you meet budget, quality and operational targets;
  • deliver high quality, learner focussed service to meet learner needs, contractual requirements and standards, in line with policies and procedures;
  • ensure all learners are appropriately supported to ensure they remain proactively engaged in learning.
  • Key Accountabilities

    • Assess learner knowledge and skills against a set criteria provided by the awarding body.
    • Provide appropriate pastoral support for learners
    • Support learners in the identification and addressing of barriers which may hinder engagement in learning and progression
    • Work with tutors and trainers to develop an assessment plan to ensure that provision is inclusive of all learners and maximises their ability to fulfil their potential as learners
    • Support progress and accreditation of learner focussed provision
    • Support the progression of learners in regard to Essential Skills targets
    • Ensure that learner records are accurate and are maintained in line with data protection and agreed policies
    • Work within the agreed Quality Management System and adhere to quality procedures and correct documentation
    • Ensure the safeguarding of learners
    • Communicate effectively with Novus Cambria colleagues, learners, stakeholders and other departments across the establishment
    • Comply with Health & Safety legislation and prison security requirements
    • Participate in continual professional development activities to ensure skills and qualifications are in line with sector best practice

  • Qualifications

    • Hold a minimum L3 qualification in relevant subject specific area Essential
    • Hold at least a level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy Essential
    • Appropriate Assessor qualification (TAQA 3, A1, or equivalent) Desirable
    • Appropriate Internal Verifier qualification (TAQA 4, V1, or equivalent) Desirable
    • Ability to speak fluent Welsh Desirable
    • Subject to enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check Essential
  • Experience

    • Knowledge of strategies and processes which support learning Essential
    • Knowledge and understanding of how people learn and methods that can be used to enhance the learning experience Essential
    • Experience of coaching to support learning Essential
    • Track record of working with people presenting with challenging behaviour Essential
    • Experience of working within a prison, further education or training setting Essential
